Shapes

What is a Shape?

A shape is a higher-order grouping of clusters. Shapes represent the broadest level of organization in Autonomy Realms, capturing meta-patterns that emerge when multiple clusters are viewed together.

The Hierarchy

The full preservation hierarchy is:

  • Shape -- The highest level. Groups clusters into overarching patterns
  • Cluster -- The middle level. Groups signals into thematic arcs
  • Signal -- The atomic level. Individual captured moments

A shape contains clusters, and each cluster contains signals. This three-tier structure allows you to organize experience at any scale, from a single moment up to a life-spanning pattern.

Shape Analysis

AI analysis at the shape level looks across all member clusters and their signals to identify:

  • Meta-patterns that span multiple arcs
  • Recurring themes across different time periods, locations, or projects
  • The larger narrative formed by the intersection of clusters

Shape analysis produces the most expansive view, synthesizing meaning across the broadest scope of documented experience.

When to Use Shapes vs Clusters

  • Use clusters when you want to group related signals into a single arc or theme
  • Use shapes when you notice that multiple clusters connect to form a larger pattern

For example, individual clusters might capture different projects, seasons, or locations. A shape could then group those clusters to reveal how they relate to each other over time or across a broader narrative.

The Shapes List View

The shapes list displays all shapes with their names, descriptions, and the number of clusters each contains. You can browse and search shapes to navigate the highest level of your archive's organization.
