rswfire woke and reached for the recording before anything else. He said so at the start — that he had literally just woken up, that he had to share this — and then began talking fast, in the narrow margin where the material was still intact. The RV was around him, the actual one, the one he lives in. What he was describing was another.
In the dream he got into his RV and saw a kid, maybe twelve, who got on a bicycle and rode off. He settled in, ready to go, and reversed, because reversing was the only way out of the site. Then he hit him. The kid yelled something — stop, you caught my leg — and rswfire was out of the vehicle and into the panic of it: what do I do, call the police, call. He made the call and went to the kid, who was bleeding everywhere and not coherent, and while he was trying to hold both things at once — the boy on the ground, the voice on the phone — the woman on the line told him to dial a different number to get an ambulance. He said what. He said he needed someone here right now. Then the kid went into shock, had some reaction, and looked dead, and rswfire was yelling into the phone, and there was nobody on the other end of it.
So he gathered the boy up. He put him in the RV and drove down a road not knowing where a hospital was on it, or whether there was one. Somewhere along that road the kid woke up. rswfire thinks he tried calling again — he doesn't remember — and then he was just talking to him, apologizing, telling him he was new to all this, new to RV life and all of that. And the kid said the thing rswfire could not believe even inside the dream: that it was a joke. That he didn't think rswfire would really run him over. That he did that to himself.
They had found a hospital by then, somehow, and rswfire was carrying him in while the boy kept talking — saying he wasn't going to admit to it, that the admission would not survive the doorway. rswfire's hands went to his phone. I need to get this on camera. He was fumbling with it and carrying the kid at the same time, trying to hold the record and the body in the same two hands, and that was where it broke — that was, he said, the weirdest dream he had ever had in his life.
Then, mid-transmission, he flagged what he'd skipped. There was an earlier part. He said he'd try to get to it if he could, and after the ending he circled back and got to it. Before all of it, he had arrived at a place where there was an RV with its door open, and then another RV, and the second one was strange — a fridge outside that did some thing, and then a fridge inside as well, a configuration he stopped trying to explain and simply named as not rational. He thought someone came out. He isn't sure. And then he was inside it, trespassing, because the door was open and something drew him in, standing in a stranger's rig looking at the man's life laid out on the walls.
The man came out. It was awkward. rswfire doesn't remember how the explaining went, but it went, and then the two of them were walking and talking and going somewhere together, and at some point rswfire asked him whether he ever got used to driving the thing. The man said it was never a problem for him. Then he told rswfire he probably shouldn't be doing this. And then the dream switched, and rswfire was getting into his own RV, and then there was the kid. He left it there — on the strangeness, not on the meaning — and said wow, and stopped recording.
