[0:00] I'm in the process of making chili
[0:02] Outdoors on a very windy day that Lake
[0:06] behind me in my
[0:08] crockpot all I have to do now is is a
[0:10] hamburger meat I just got to figure that
[0:12] part out well this is remarkable I am
[0:15] actually cooking in here I have no idea
[0:19] like how much propane you should be
[0:21] using you know when you cook stuff like
[0:24] this no
[0:26] idea might take a while I have no idea
[0:30] but I hope I don't run out to cuz I
[0:33] think 11% which is what my propane says
[0:35] is actually 0 to 11 I could be really
[0:37] close to
[0:39] out so I guess we'll find
[0:42] out really hope this works out I would
[0:44] love to have some
[0:46] chili probably more meat than I need of
[0:48] course um I could find at the
[0:52] store Oliver is being in total pain
[0:55] today that that's the one that will just
[0:59] terrorize you
[1:01] forever no apparent reason you
[1:04] know cuz that's his
[1:07] personality love him
[1:11] dearly he just gets in the way a lot you
[1:13] always got to be watching out for
[1:16] him you a lot more hamburger me than I'm
[1:18] going to need I guess I'll take half of
[1:21] it and turn it into
[1:24] um my my version of Mexican food
[1:28] basically tacos
[1:32] so that'll be
[1:33] [Music]
[1:35] good
[1:36] [Music]
[1:43] D know this is cooking pretty
[1:47] fast I'll show the SEC here I'll get
[1:51] better at this guys I'm going to be like
[1:53] Caroline and show you me cooking all the
[1:56] time
[1:57] so you know
[2:01] I kind of aspire to be like her I really
[2:03] do um we have very different
[2:06] personalities we're very different kinds
[2:08] of people right but her lifestyle I
[2:12] inspired to her
[2:15] lifestyle
[2:16] um I think that she does an excellent
[2:19] job of just you know living off grid and
[2:23] um managing her life you know and all of
[2:26] that I love what she shares I love that
[2:28] she shares her or indoor life or outdoor
[2:31] life all of that that's what I want to
[2:33] do I've just been frustrated lately CU
[2:36] it just feels like a lot I'm really
[2:41] overwhelmed worried about that cing out
[2:43] that
[2:45] door super windy out maybe that door
[2:49] just blows open I don't
[2:52] know we are right on the water this is
[2:55] different so I don't even know where
[2:58] to nor I don't I don't know I'll
[3:01] manage Oliver I have let you out like
[3:04] five times now I don't think you really
[3:06] want
[3:08] outside Bailey's just chilling out there
[3:12] you know my chil's just over there we'll
[3:14] be out in a
[3:16] minute so that's what we're doing
[3:18] tonight finally you know I
[3:21] haven't it's first time doing
[3:24] this um starting to feel like I really
[3:27] love here
[3:30] I've been leaving off hot dogs by the
[3:32] way up until I ran out of them and
[3:36] stopped you know I haven't eaten since
[3:37] yesterday today it's Friday so
[3:42] Wednesday you know it's last time I ate
[3:45] um
[3:47] starving so I'll get better at this just
[3:51] the
[3:52] process I know I keep saying it but I'm
[3:55] saying it to myself too you know
[4:00] yeah this will pretty fast so there are
[4:03] challenges like I couldn't figure out
[4:04] like like I don't want to put the like
[4:07] so I took you know I have beans in my
[4:08] chili of
[4:10] course and I was always taught to drain
[4:12] the liquid from those beans and then
[4:15] rinse the beans off but I didn't want to
[4:17] put that stuff down my tank so all I did
[4:19] was I just drained the beans into a a
[4:22] plastic bowl like you know plastic bowl
[4:26] and then dumped it um I got to get
[4:29] better at that like what am I going to
[4:30] do with the grease of this hamburger me
[4:32] I don't know so it's obviously not going
[4:35] down to
[4:36] drain um I would have even done that at
[4:38] my house it be clear but I just
[4:42] um not
[4:45] sure I guess I need something to put
[4:47] grease
[4:49] into my tobacco cans will
[4:52] do I did it home but I don't know what
[4:55] you would do with like the tomato juice
[4:57] from
[4:58] the um from the beans you know and stuff
[5:01] like that I have no idea I'm going to
[5:04] need to cut up some garlic I need to cut
[5:05] up an
[5:07] onion
[5:08] um just does feel challenging there's no
[5:11] doubt about
[5:14] that but I will get the hang of this
[5:17] it's goinging pretty good over here I
[5:19] hope that you guys are having an
[5:21] excellent weekend by the way see it's
[5:24] Friday I am so thrilled to I my mom
[5:26] found my journals oh my God I thought
[5:29] they were gone forever that's
[5:31] like that is just I I'm very lucky I
[5:35] guess I I must have put them in there
[5:38] and didn't don't remember doing
[5:40] it you know wanting to keep them
[5:44] safe
[5:46] um glad I did that that's
[5:52] good so yeah half of this oh I'm not
[5:56] even on the burner guys I'm terrible at
[5:58] this I really am
[6:00] also these are very small burners so
[6:03] like you can't put lots of pans up there
[6:06] I
[6:07] don't me I'm very curious tell me if I'm
[6:12] crazy probably I am but would you turn
[6:15] on multiple burners for just like one
[6:17] big
[6:18] pan he probably wouldn't would you but
[6:21] it feels like that's what you're
[6:22] supposed to do
[6:24] here um I bet some of you complain about
[6:27] me using this metal um
[6:30] spatula I wouldn't blame you
[6:34] either but when I cooked my burgers on
[6:38] the grill that one
[6:39] day I didn't have any metal ones so now
[6:42] I have metal ones and I don't have
[6:44] wooden
[6:46] ones might have some down there I'll
[6:48] have to
[6:50] look this is my first time using this
[6:53] fan too when I started my journey here
[6:57] um wanted a new life I wanted to let go
[7:01] of the old and start with new things
[7:04] largely you know I'm not you know and
[7:07] give my stuff away and just you know
[7:10] stuff like that but turns out um
[7:13] Brandon's friend gave all his stuff to
[7:14] his mother didn't keep any of it trying
[7:17] to help a guy but he helped his mother
[7:20] so how can I be upset about
[7:23] that I'm technically not supposed to say
[7:25] anything I think Brandon didn't want me
[7:27] to know but I'm not upset Brandon it's
[7:30] fine
[7:32] um which people would be
[7:35] honest that's all not you obviously your
[7:39] friend
[7:41] um felt good about helping him well I
[7:44] feel just is good about helping his
[7:45] mother so it's all
[7:47] good you know I would do the same for my
[7:50] mom so you know he must be a good
[7:54] person he did that for his Mar so not
[7:58] going to complain about
[8:06] there hope I don't run out of propane
[8:08] that was really
[8:12] suck let me just take a
[8:14] check from what I can tell this thing
[8:17] tells you things in 11 percentages or 33
[8:20] percentages so you you know it says
[8:26] 11% oh man you just I just
[8:30] you know it could be 0 to
[8:32] 11
[8:34] um I'm going to deal with this so figure
[8:36] it out just don't want it I really would
[8:39] prefer to do it when we leave here
[8:41] because I don't want to put the Cs to
[8:42] that I even want to just kind of hold
[8:44] off of the tanks if I can that thing
[8:46] does say 66% on my gray tank
[8:50] though um that might be hard you know
[8:52] over the course of a week but I'll
[8:55] try cuz I'm I do think that I'm going to
[8:57] have to give my cat spend a drill I
[8:59] don't know any other
[9:02] way um and I need to find them a thatat
[9:04] somewhere you know I want to do it
[9:08] safely and maybe it's not benad I'm just
[9:10] using that as um a synonym for
[9:16] aeta they just they're going to need
[9:18] something to make
[9:20] them how clean these
[9:24] things this Grill top thing come
[9:27] on very different I like this
[9:32] though almost
[9:35] done we don't have to be all the way
[9:37] done because you can put it in with your
[9:39] crock pot and I'll cook the rest of the
[9:41] way it can be a little bit pink I think
[9:44] I always assumed oh by the way guys
[9:47] never trust my cooking don't take advice
[9:49] for me on
[9:50] that except my chili I'm very good at
[9:53] making
[9:54] chili I
[9:56] [Music]
[9:57] am and spaghetti
[10:00] spaghetti and chili I like my version of
[10:03] Mexican you shouldn't call it Mexican
[10:04] though it it's not
[10:06] really I mean if you're just putting
[10:08] taco seasoning and hamburger meat
[10:13] and some cheese on it that that's what I
[10:16] do I'm so
[10:18] simple
[10:19] but I then that's good I like
[10:23] it I wish I could make Mexican pizzas I
[10:27] had one in Mexico once when I was a kid
[10:29] kid I will never forget it oh my God was
[10:32] it good thinking about
[10:35] it very
[10:38] hungry I'm going to pause this for a
[10:40] minute I am genuinely going to need
[10:42] somebody to tell me if this me off cuz I
[10:45] don't
[10:46] know I'm not going to lie this is a
[10:48] little bit messy I am just not good at
[10:51] this sort of thing but I'll get better I
[10:54] have to get
[10:56] better um put some in the chili
[11:00] already there two I had three of these
[11:03] bowls full of full of hamburger
[11:07] meat I put two of them in there it's a
[11:09] little bit full now but a lot of it's
[11:11] liquid so we're going to go and deal
[11:12] with
[11:13] that it is so windy out guys like
[11:16] nothing is everything's going all over
[11:19] the
[11:22] place see if we can do this
[11:26] though just I got too much tomato sauce
[11:29] in here and I thought I might end up
[11:30] with this
[11:33] problem um this won't be easy but I'm
[11:35] going to try my best here there you are
[11:39] Oliver
[11:41] oh well I guess it's going to be a
[11:42] little bit greasy cuz I didn't think to
[11:44] drain that better I guess oh well I
[11:47] don't
[11:47] mind I would eat
[11:51] it and I still need to put onions in
[11:54] here I'm not a big fan of onions but you
[11:57] know my mom's always saying put onions
[11:59] in or chili
[12:00] anyways generally I do but I do need to
[12:03] get my garlic that's important a little
[12:06] bit of
[12:09] garlic
[12:11] um I just don't know what to do with
[12:13] this other than just dump it into my
[12:16] trash so I'm putting it in a trash that
[12:20] I you
[12:21] know is
[12:23] supposedly very airtight it's not going
[12:26] to be a
[12:28] problem gu we'll find out I'm trying to
[12:30] save my beans I love beans Oliver why
[12:33] are you crying I have brought you in and
[12:36] out of the house so many times already I
[12:38] don't know what to do with you
[12:40] man you are really being a piece of work
[12:45] today you know I love you what what do
[12:48] you want
[12:50] man you don't want out here it's windy
[12:54] you are not enjoying it out here
[12:59] well you're
[13:01] not I guess we're going to try again
[13:07] though things I do for
[13:11] them hold on Buddy just hold
[13:16] on so somebody tent camping like right
[13:21] over there she came today it looks
[13:24] awesome like she brought a whole bunch
[13:26] of stuff she set up camp and it's almost
[13:28] like
[13:30] like I don't want to be the kind of guy
[13:32] who's putting random people on YouTube I
[13:34] don't know if people even do that but
[13:36] her site looks so awesome I really
[13:38] wanted to see it it's so cool
[13:41] looking um I don't know if she does this
[13:44] all the time or what like
[13:46] what I mean I kind of got the Feeling
[13:49] maybe she does because it was almost
[13:51] like there's like
[13:54] a
[13:56] um like a greenhouse over there but it's
[13:58] not not a greenhouse I don't know it's
[14:01] very interesting to
[14:03] me it
[14:09] did okay tastes like tomato juice not
[14:16] more see much more
[14:22] spices all right let's see if we can
[14:24] deal with Oliver after I deal with
[14:26] this I mean maybe someone else has some
[14:29] thoughts on how do I just how do you do
[14:32] this like if you got to you don't want
[14:35] to just dump liquid into a garbage bag
[14:37] right so what would you get like how
[14:39] would you deal with that I got to get
[14:41] out restarting to clo stuff up okay
[14:44] let's see how well this
[14:46] goes he hasn't been wanting out so I
[14:49] don't
[14:52] know it's windy it's
[14:55] cold so beautiful
[15:04] Bailey's just been chilling so that's
[15:07] all we're doing I'm going to hang out
[15:08] here with the cats I might even grab my
[15:10] Kindle and start you know doing some
[15:12] reading or something like that I'm just
[15:13] going to chill tonight I'm so glad I was
[15:15] able to accomplish that it's a good day
[15:19] think it's cheap anymore guys
[15:22] $230 there ain't that much in
[15:26] there let's see what we got in here
[15:32] J
[15:35] stuff did the Havey items got some stuff
[15:38] for chili
[15:39] [Music]
[15:41] here um you know normal household things
[15:45] that you have to have even when you live
[15:47] in a
[15:51] camper plastic bowls hopefully those
[15:54] will save
[15:57] me cap
[16:00] food so what would I cats do probably
[16:03] eat me in my
[16:05] sleep lotion cuz my or what are those
[16:09] called you know you blow your nose with
[16:11] them cuz my nose never stops
[16:15] blowing things the
[16:21] [Music]
[16:23] water let's
[16:26] see instant mashed potato
[16:30] onion for my
[16:31] [Music]
[16:36] chili just some plastic cups
[16:40] basically I got these popsicles hoping
[16:43] Bailey will like them hot dogs lunch
[16:45] meat and
[16:46] cheese a very simple
[16:51] guy
[16:56] milk orange juice some I'm about to go
[16:59] through a
[17:03] draw anything that helps with
[17:06] that hamburger meat for my chili and
[17:09] some hamburger like
[17:11] patties for the
[17:13] grill cat treats CU they can't live
[17:16] without their
[17:19] Stu and then some
[17:23] buns on
[17:25] Top Mountain Dew because I'm in you know
[17:28] the world's big idiot lost all his teeth
[17:30] to this stuff still drinks
[17:34] it cuz you know that makes a lot of
[17:39] sense
[17:43] C probably should have put some this up
[17:45] front really I cannot believe I'm
[17:46] putting on my solar
[17:48] panels toilet paper all that guys for
[17:54] [Music]
[17:56] $230 a little bit hot
[18:03] okay time for one of my
[18:05] pet one of those people don't put your
[18:07] basket away I hope you go to Dante's
[18:13] Inferno here's SP just put them
[18:16] away put them in a nice
[18:20] [Music]
[18:24] order yeah okay that's not my fault good
[18:32] enough I really believe that you guys
[18:35] just put them away just be considered I
[18:38] am all about that I wish everybody else
[18:41] wasn't too I don't understand what
[18:43] happened people used to be kinder in the
[18:48] world I'm used to think about other
[18:50] people you know nobody does and because
[18:52] nobody does nobody tries
[18:54] anymore well since got to start with
[18:57] somebody and I'm going to keep doing it
[19:00] so how about you join me it's called
[19:02] paying it
[19:07] forward see if I can figure out how I'm
[19:10] getting home CU I don't even know what
[19:11] that
[19:13] is
[19:16] um I got everything on my list post some
[19:19] things that weren't on my list but there
[19:21] things I was going to
[19:23] need and I knew it so I didn't I got
[19:26] everything we need it's just going to
[19:28] take up space B in that camper I don't
[19:30] have I got to figure my pantry
[19:33] out um one thing I love about this Jeep
[19:37] is you don't have to put keys in it you
[19:39] just have to have them on you this is so
[19:41] cool I freaking love
[19:44] that um yeah I got to plug it
[19:48] in with
[19:50] that I bet this is upside down now in my
[19:52] video watch I turned it
[19:56] off um
[19:59] yeah let's figure out how to get
[20:06] home
[20:10] recent uhoh it's not in here he afraid
[20:14] of
[20:15] that okay I found it I don't know that
[20:18] can really leave the sign I wasn't
[20:19] planning to not really I'm trying to do
[20:22] here but trying to chill for a moment 30
[20:26] minute drive
[20:31] glad I found a place glad I did this
[20:33] it's very hard for me guys I don't know
[20:35] why just even going into a place like
[20:38] that these days is hard didn't used to
[20:41] be that way I don't know what happened
[20:42] to me but you just got to do it anyways
[20:45] it's you just got to do it
[20:49] anyways I don't know when I'll post this
[20:51] I'm prob to post it now I will talk to
[20:53] you guys
[20:55] later guys this is unbelievable even
[20:58] even in a
[20:59] campground people can't go the speed
[21:02] limit
[21:03] what that is wild like I mean come on
[21:08] man like I'm not going to speed through
[21:10] a campground where there are kids and
[21:12] stuff playing there's a guy tailgating
[21:15] me in a big old camper that is just
[21:18] outrageous and
[21:21] wow I'm telling you my channel is
[21:24] getting dedicated to teaching people how
[21:26] to be decent human beings I swear to God

Narrative

The wind came off the lake all evening and rswfire tracked it the way you track anything that can take something from you — the door that might blow open, the loose items going all over the place outside, the cold pressing at the thin walls of the camper. Inside, the crockpot was already working. He was making chili for the first time in this kitchen, and he said so to the camera plainly: he was actually cooking in here. The hamburger meat was the part he still had to figure out.

The propane gauge read 11%, and he did not know whether that meant eleven percent or somewhere between zero and eleven. The thing seemed to report in elevens and thirty-threes, so the number was less a measurement than a range he had to live inside while the meat browned. The gray tank read 66%, which over the course of a week might be hard. He said he would rather deal with the tanks when they left, so as not to put the cats through it. Two numbers, both approximate, both hard limits, both accepted as the terms of the evening. He said he hoped he wouldn't run out. Then he kept cooking.

The problems arrived one at a time and none of them came with inherited answers. He had drained the beans the way he was taught, but he would not put that liquid down his tank, so he drained it into a plastic bowl and dumped it into a trash bag he described as supposedly very airtight — a solution he narrated while performing it, unsure it would hold. The grease was next and he had no answer for it at all. Tobacco cans, maybe. He asked the camera directly how a person handles this, how you deal with liquid you can't pour into a drain or a bag. Partway through he noticed the pan wasn't even on the burner. He said he was terrible at this. He also said, more than once and explicitly as a directive to himself, that he would get better at it. The burners were small. He wondered aloud whether you're supposed to run more than one under a single big pan. The vent fan ran for the first time. He used a metal spatula and preemptively conceded the point to anyone who would object.

Around the work, the household moved. Oliver cried and was let out and came back, five times by rswfire's count, wanting something that wasn't outside — it was windy, it was cold, and he plainly wasn't enjoying it. Bailey stayed out there, chilling, unbothered. Beyond them, a woman had arrived that day and set up a tent site he found genuinely beautiful, something almost like a greenhouse but not; he wanted to show it and decided not to, saying he didn't want to be the kind of guy who puts random people on YouTube. He named Caroline as someone whose off-grid life he aspires to — different people, different personalities, but that lifestyle, that way of managing a life and sharing both the indoor and the outdoor of it. He said he'd been frustrated lately, that it felt like a lot, that he was overwhelmed. He also said it was starting to feel like he really loved it here. He mentioned he hadn't eaten since Wednesday, and it was Friday.

Two pieces of news surfaced while his hands were busy. His mother had found his journals — he thought they were gone forever, and said he must have put them somewhere safe and not remembered doing it. And the possessions he had given away when he began this: Brandon's friend had passed them all to his own mother rather than keeping them. rswfire said he wasn't supposed to know, said he wasn't upset, said he would do the same for his own mom, and let it stand there — the guy must be a good person. What he asked for instead was honesty, generally, from people.

Earlier that day the Jeep had carried him thirty minutes each way to a store, and he unpacked the haul on camera in the lot: $230, and not that much in there. Heavy items, chili supplies, plastic bowls, cat food and treats, lotion, tissues because his nose never stops, instant mashed potatoes, the onion for the chili his mother always tells him to add, popsicles he hoped Bailey would like, hot dogs, lunch meat, buns, milk, orange juice, toilet paper, and Mountain Dew — which he flagged himself, saying he lost all his teeth to it and still drinks it. He couldn't believe he was buying solar panels. He said going into a place like that is hard for him these days, that it didn't used to be, and that you just do it anyways.

Before leaving he returned the cart, and then he squared it away in a nice order, and then he made the only argument in the entire signal that he raised his voice to make: put them away, be considerate. He said people used to think about other people, that because nobody does it nobody tries anymore, and that it has to start with somebody, so he was going to keep doing it and invited anyone watching to join him. The drive back closed the loop — someone in a big camper tailgating him through the campground where kids play, and he wouldn't speed through it. He said his channel was becoming dedicated to teaching people how to be decent human beings. Back at the lake, the chili was in the pot, greasier than he'd intended and short on spices and needing garlic, and he called it a good day and planned to grab his Kindle and read while the wind kept working at the door.

Summary

rswfire records his first time cooking a full meal in the camper, making chili in a crockpot with browned hamburger meat while parked on the water in high wind. He states he is uncertain about propane consumption — the gauge reads 11%, which he notes may indicate a range from 0 to 11 — and hopes it lasts through the cook.

He works through practical unknowns as they arise:

  • Bean liquid drained into a plastic bowl rather than the tank
  • Hamburger grease with no established disposal method; he considers tobacco cans
  • Small burners limiting pan placement, and a question about running multiple burners under one pan
  • Gray tank at 66%, which he plans to hold until leaving the site

He mentions the cats Oliver and Bailey, describing Oliver repeatedly asking in and out. He references Caroline as a channel whose off-grid lifestyle he aspires to, states he has been overwhelmed lately, and notes he last ate Wednesday. He states his mother found his journals, which he thought were gone.

He addresses Brandon directly regarding donated items that went to a friend's mother, stating he is not upset.

A second segment covers a $230 grocery run — itemized on camera — plus commentary on returning shopping carts, and on a camper tailgating him inside the campground.

Environment

A camper/RV parked lakeside in a windy campground, recorded on a Friday evening in late April 2024. Cooking occurs at the small interior propane range and a crockpot, with a vent fan running for the first time; wind is strong enough that rswfire tracks the door and loose items. Cats Oliver and Bailey move in and out of the camper; another camper's tent site is visible nearby.

The signal also spans a Jeep cab and a store parking lot — a 30-minute drive from camp — where a $230 grocery haul is unpacked on camera, and a return drive through the campground.

Substrate

This is the early build phase of a chosen mobile-living system, where every domestic operation — grease disposal, bean liquid, gray tank capacity, propane percentage, burner sizing — must be re-derived from first principles rather than inherited from house infrastructure. rswfire holds the position that competence is acquired through iteration and states it repeatedly as a directive to himself, treating current inefficiency as a stage rather than a verdict. A parallel ethical substrate runs alongside the logistics: reciprocity, honesty, and consideration are framed as the operating standard he will maintain regardless of whether others do.
