[0:01] my camera came on all by itself it's
[0:04] like it detects your face it's like bam
[0:06] okay I guess we're doing this good
[0:08] morning I just woke up it's 6:00 in the
[0:11] morning it's very cold today it's in the
[0:13] 30s out there and I had my window open
[0:16] so I'm just bundling up here um I'm not
[0:20] where I had intended to be I drove up to
[0:23] abandon to the beach and the campground
[0:26] there was um under construction so um
[0:30] had to Pivot figure out what am I doing
[0:31] I tried to go a little bit more North uh
[0:34] to those places I had talked about but
[0:36] there
[0:37] was um nothing available at least with
[0:40] the quick search that I had done while I
[0:42] was just kind of like okay I'm I'm you
[0:45] know I got to figure something out and
[0:47] then so I was like okay Humbug Mountain
[0:49] it is and that's where I am got here
[0:52] last night um nearly backed into a
[0:56] tree with confidence because I thought I
[0:59] was lined up perfectly so
[1:02] I I would have demolished that thing cuz
[1:05] I really thought that I was signed up
[1:07] perfectly this man yells out I a
[1:11] millimeter from the thing like it was
[1:13] close so that's a lesson to to take to
[1:15] heart like even if you think you're
[1:18] lined up well and you're
[1:20] just yeah maybe be a little more
[1:22] cautious than I was being man I was
[1:24] embarrassed but anyways I got some clips
[1:26] for that so once you know that'll be at
[1:29] the end of this so
[1:32] let me slow down cuz I can just tell I
[1:34] got nervous energy this
[1:37] morning and apparently I'm congested a
[1:40] little
[1:41] B let me just take a
[1:48] moment guess I have a lot on my mind CU
[1:51] um okay so the reason I didn't just come
[1:54] here even though I love this place I
[1:56] truly love it here is there's no
[1:59] internet there there's no sell service
[2:01] so I mean none this is just Humbug
[2:04] Mountain that mountain it's like it's
[2:06] got It's got opinions about whether you
[2:08] use internet here or not you know
[2:12] so I was like I'll come back but I'll
[2:14] wait until I have some kind of backup
[2:16] internet either my satellite or um that
[2:19] travel F service I used to have um but I
[2:22] don't have either of those right now I
[2:24] can't afford them
[2:26] so well I decided you know I'm going to
[2:28] stay here another night maybe maybe even
[2:31] two
[2:32] because
[2:33] um not having any internet access plus
[2:38] like 16 hours of Darkness has forced me
[2:41] to actually sit here and rest my core
[2:44] muscles are very
[2:46] sore um I think that it probably helped
[2:49] so I'm I think I'm going to just force
[2:52] myself to be sort of in
[2:54] this the space
[2:56] [Music]
[2:57] where the outside world's made making a
[3:00] making decisions for me that are that
[3:03] are helping me make better decisions for
[3:05] myself something like that you know so
[3:08] I'm going to stay here and um just just
[3:12] rest I mean I I literally slept for the
[3:14] past 10 hours I slept from 8:00 p.m. to
[3:17] 6:00 in the morning there's times I woke
[3:19] up you know and um stayed up for a
[3:22] little while but I mostly slept and I
[3:24] really needed it I could tell like I can
[3:26] tell my eyes look better right they're
[3:28] not so those bags are my eyes not so bad
[3:31] so you know
[3:33] yeah I'm going to go into town this
[3:35] morning I got to get a couple of
[3:38] supplies that I didn't think about that
[3:40] I would need just basic stuff
[3:43] um Bailey stuff basically that cat needs
[3:46] everything um then I'm going to do
[3:48] laundry because really need to get that
[3:51] done man so much laundry and this it's
[3:53] so funny cuz I'm here in Port Orford
[3:55] Orford
[3:56] Shire which is where I was you know
[3:59] before I decided to after cap Blanco you
[4:03] know I left and you know I ended up
[4:05] right back here and this is you know I
[4:06] just this little town like is perfect
[4:08] for all my needs and so I'm going to
[4:11] just take care of that stuff this
[4:13] morning so I have internet for a short
[4:15] while I'm out there and I'll get
[4:16] everything uploaded but probably won't
[4:19] hear from me for a couple days cuz I
[4:21] really will just well you know what you
[4:24] guys have a holiday coming up we all do
[4:26] it's mine too Thanksgiving but um
[4:30] you know I don't really have anyone to
[4:32] celebrate it with without here so hope
[4:34] you guys have an awesome one though that
[4:37] I really do hope
[4:39] that um there's something I want to talk
[4:41] about though
[4:42] so I noticed that so every once in a
[4:46] while my phone might pick up a few
[4:48] things and I saw some comments came
[4:51] through and they were all they were all
[4:54] trolls trollish comments one person said
[4:58] um called me a hobo
[5:00] and another person um I can't remember
[5:04] their exact words but they they
[5:06] criticized me and then said something
[5:07] about Bailey being in a carrier
[5:10] outside this kind of behavior is
[5:13] inappropriate it's hurtful I'm not going
[5:16] to lie it's a little bit
[5:18] hurtful but it's childish and I see
[5:21] through it of
[5:24] course and it's not going to change
[5:27] anything about me because I don't get my
[5:29] Val
[5:30] externally it just shows me who you
[5:33] are but I'm not going to pretend it's
[5:35] not a
[5:36] thing when you leave comments like that
[5:39] you're just showing what kind of person
[5:41] you
[5:41] are and it shows me that you're not a
[5:44] good person because good people don't do
[5:47] that and that's your burden to bear not
[5:52] mine now I got some other comments too
[5:54] one
[5:55] person was talking about how I could use
[5:58] my generator to charge my batteries this
[6:00] is true but I this is giving advice
[6:03] which you know not everyone is going to
[6:06] know that that's a thing that that kind
[6:08] of bothers me that I don't like and I
[6:11] handled it differently than I would have
[6:13] in the past but
[6:14] I'm I realized that what I really need
[6:18] to do is explain to you guys how to
[6:19] interact with me because I don't think
[6:21] you know I don't think
[6:23] you based on the fact that most people
[6:26] don't comment
[6:28] and you know I think that you guys are
[6:30] pretty cautious about it let me explain
[6:32] cuz this is what you're missing this is
[6:33] how you communicate with someone like
[6:35] me first of all no advice that I didn't
[6:38] ask for unless that advice is going
[6:43] to fundamentally help me was something
[6:46] that that I just need to know like
[6:50] like like don't do this thing cuz you're
[6:53] going to cause a fire like something
[6:55] serious that I just you can see I don't
[6:57] know you got to you got to you got to
[6:58] share that you got to help me out right
[7:01] but you
[7:03] know did you consider this
[7:06] option I probably did I'm sorry but I
[7:10] probably did you know and it's like so
[7:14] what am I supposed to do with that
[7:15] comment because if you reply to me I'm
[7:18] going to write you back but what and
[7:20] then I have to say look I already
[7:22] thought about this and this is why I
[7:24] don't want to do that and that sounds
[7:25] defensive and I'm not trying to be
[7:27] defensive I'm just trying to
[7:30] maintain a dialogue with you that's
[7:33] honest and truthful and you kind of set
[7:36] me up for
[7:38] that but this is how you communicate
[7:40] with me you ask
[7:43] questions because everything I say to
[7:45] you has 10 layers that you don't even
[7:47] know about because I didn't Express them
[7:51] but they're there there are 10 layers to
[7:53] every single sentence I saying so if
[7:55] there's something that you're you didn't
[7:58] understand or you want me to elaborate
[8:00] on ask because I will I'll I'll enjoy
[8:03] doing that that's how we build a
[8:05] dialogue
[8:07] together someone like me is never just
[8:11] surface level there are interconnections
[8:14] and relationships and you know just this
[8:17] unfolding of
[8:19] things for any topic that I talk about
[8:22] so ask
[8:25] questions that's how we do this now I'm
[8:28] going to go and and deal with my day
[8:31] and come back take a shower and then
[8:34] rest because that's the thing I
[8:37] need got some bad news I got all the way
[8:41] here into Bandon to their state park and
[8:45] it's closed for construction I didn't
[8:49] realize um maybe it said it on the
[8:51] website I just didn't notice but I tried
[8:54] to keep going so I was looking on for
[8:58] reservations like like um at Cape arago
[9:02] and some other places but actually there
[9:03] isn't a campground there I don't know I
[9:05] must have looked at something wrong
[9:06] there was another one in that area but
[9:08] it
[9:09] was um it was all booked up so I have to
[9:13] go back um 45 minutes
[9:16] south so that I can say humbug
[9:22] today um I got to get this phone
[9:24] charging waitting for this person to
[9:27] go ex me just there with me
[9:30] guys so I am just going to stay
[9:34] overnight at Humbug Mountain one of my
[9:36] favorite places but we definitely drove
[9:39] all out of our way I really wanted to be
[9:42] up here now that I got here but they're
[9:44] close who knows for how long they're
[9:46] very nice though they were nice to talk
[9:48] to
[9:50] um figure something out cuz I do know
[9:53] that you know Thanksgiving and all that
[9:56] so um it just might be a little
[9:58] difficult
[10:00] well I'll figure it out so I'll just
[10:02] once I get somewhere that I can just
[10:03] settle in for the night cuz I got to
[10:06] keep my batteries going and all of that
[10:08] um need a place to shower didn't get to
[10:10] shower
[10:12] today oh I wanted to be on the beach
[10:14] here I even got to see abandoned Beach
[10:16] cuz um I didn't put in the right place
[10:19] um in my directions um in Google Maps so
[10:23] um it took me to Bandon beach was a
[10:25] different place very cool like man there
[10:27] were all these cool like I forget what
[10:30] they call the Rocks but you know all
[10:31] these really nice rocks and this beach
[10:34] that looked almost
[10:36] like it was just picturesque like you
[10:39] would want to see this so I'm I'm coming
[10:41] back for that which way do I go I don't
[10:44] next okay there's the bridge I know
[10:46] where I am I love this
[10:48] bridge
[10:50] man I'll figure it out we're just going
[10:53] to have
[10:54] to we're pivoting today it's all I can
[10:57] do I still haven't eat by the way man
[11:01] this is not things are going very well
[11:03] well I'm going to be back near Port
[11:05] Orford um I guess I'll I'll figure it
[11:09] out this is this is noad life it's only
[11:12] 5:30 but it's pitch black outside I just
[11:14] got to Humbug Mountain I'm at the dump
[11:17] station so I can detach the
[11:20] Jeep um then I got to get into my sight
[11:22] all this in the dark this sucks there I
[11:25] am it's just very dark out so lesson
[11:29] learned I knew you know I kind of knew
[11:31] though so here we go so this is
[11:34] embarrassing I nearly hit a tree oh my
[11:37] God like I was like a millimeter from
[11:40] hitting this tree but this man yelled
[11:41] out saved me used a flashlight helped me
[11:44] get in there it was pretty hard actually
[11:47] um yeah I told him how embarrassed I was
[11:49] and DED him very nice man now I'm going
[11:52] to go into town and get some groceries
[11:55] and
[11:58] just yeah never go to a campsite at
[12:00] night oh my God that was awful but you
[12:03] know what's really funny there was an RV
[12:05] in front of me and I used my rights to
[12:08] help him get into his spot without him
[12:09] asking or anything cuz I was behind him
[12:11] he was pulling in it's like okay here's
[12:13] some extra lights for you I had nothing
[12:15] and then I had a flashlight thank God
[12:17] for the flashlight in that man I'm back
[12:20] home I went to the grocery store got
[12:22] stuff to make
[12:24] burgers I'm pretty good at making those
[12:27] with my ninja foodie starving
[12:30] so embarrassed oh my God that man is a
[12:32] host here and this is one of my favorite
[12:34] places
[12:35] so every time I'm here it's like going
[12:38] to be a thing right like that's a story
[12:40] now that's a story the whole staff is
[12:42] going to know I bet oh my God so
[12:44] embarrassing but you know
[12:47] what these are stories worth having I
[12:50] guess I don't know
[12:53] they're at least I didn't hit I mean it
[12:55] was a millimeter like it was it was it
[12:58] looked like I hit it but I didn't feel
[13:00] anything so I don't think I did but and
[13:01] he looked his he used his flashlight to
[13:03] check and I'll find out in the morning
[13:06] but I don't think I
[13:08] did oh man yeah time to eat

Narrative

The camera came on by itself, catching his face before he had decided to be seen. Six in the morning, thirty degrees outside, the window still open from the night. rswfire bundled up inside the rig and let the recording run. He was congested. He noticed the nervous energy in his own voice before anyone else could and named it aloud, then deliberately slowed himself — let me just take a moment — and the pace of the transmission dropped a gear. Bailey was somewhere in the rig. Humbug Mountain stood over the site with its hard, terrain-set verdict: no cell service, no internet, none. He describes the mountain as having opinions about whether you use the internet here.

He had not meant to be here. The day before he had driven north to Bandon, to the state park and the beach, and found the campground closed for construction — possibly noted on the website, he says, possibly just missed. The staff were kind about it. He kept moving, searching on the fly for anything open, touching Cape Arago, touching the country he had already covered near Cape Blanco, finding either no campground or nothing available with Thanksgiving coming. Somewhere in there Google Maps took him to the wrong Bandon Beach, the misroute delivering him to a stretch of picturesque sea stacks whose name he could not recall — all these really nice rocks — a place he immediately marked for return. He hadn't eaten. He said so plainly, on camera, driving: this is nomad life. Then the bridge came up ahead of him, and he knew where he was, and he said he loved that bridge, and the decision resolved itself into forty-five minutes back south. Humbug Mountain it is.

He arrived at 5:30 in the afternoon into full darkness. Sixteen hours of it, this time of year. He pulled into the dump station to detach the Jeep, then had to back into his site with no light but his own. He was lined up perfectly — he was certain of it — and he backed toward a tree with complete confidence. A man yelled. rswfire stopped a millimeter off it, close enough that it looked like contact, though he felt nothing. The man came over with a flashlight and helped him work the rig into the spot, which was genuinely hard. rswfire told him how embarrassed he was and thanked him.

What he registered afterward, sitting with it, was the reciprocity in the shape of the evening. Minutes before the tree, there had been an RV ahead of him pulling into its own site, and rswfire had used his headlights to light the way — unasked, uninvited, just extra light for someone working a rig into a hole in the dark. Then he had nothing, and then he had a flashlight and a man attached to it. He drove into town, got groceries, came back and made burgers in the Ninja Foodi, starving, still saying oh my God, so embarrassing — and then, turning it: the man is a host here, this is one of his favorite places, the whole staff is going to know. That's a story now. These are stories worth having.

He slept ten hours, eight in the evening to six in the morning, surfacing a few times and going back under. In the morning he read his own eyes in the camera and found the bags less pronounced. His core muscles were sore. He decided to stay another night, maybe two — not despite the connectivity boundary but because of it. He states the shape of it directly: the outside world is making decisions for him that are helping him make better decisions for himself. He had avoided this place, loved as it is, until he could afford satellite or the travel service as backup. He states he can afford neither right now. The absence of both, paired with sixteen hours of darkness, had forced him into rest he would not otherwise have taken.

The rest of the morning had a shape: into Port Orford for supplies, mostly Bailey's — that cat needs everything — then laundry, then a shower, then back to stillness. A short window of signal in town to upload everything, and then a couple of days of nothing. Thanksgiving was coming. He noted it was his too, that he had no one here to celebrate it with, and wished the audience an awesome one anyway.

Before he went, there was the comment field. A few things had come through during an intermittent moment of signal, and they had all been trollish — one calling him a hobo, another criticizing him and invoking Bailey in a carrier outside. He said it was hurtful and did not pretend otherwise, and then set it down where it came from: childish, transparent, not going to change anything about him because he does not derive his value externally. It shows him what kind of person left it. That's their burden to bear, not his. Then a different kind of comment, well-meant — someone suggesting he could charge his batteries with the generator. True, and he handled it differently than he would have before, and it still bothered him, and out of that friction he built a spec. No advice he didn't ask for, unless it's the kind that matters — don't do this, you'll cause a fire. Otherwise: did you consider this option — he probably did, and answering means explaining himself in a register that sounds defensive when he is only trying to keep the dialogue honest. What he wants instead is questions. He states the operating premise underneath it, flatly, as architecture rather than complaint: everything he says has ten layers he didn't express, and they are there, in every sentence. Someone like him is never just surface level. Ask, and he will enjoy the unfolding. That's how we build a dialogue together. Then he went to deal with his day.

Summary

rswfire records a morning transmission at Humbug Mountain after an unplanned reroute. His intended destination, the state park at Bandon, was closed for construction; searches for alternatives further north returned nothing available, so he drove roughly 45 minutes back south.

He describes arriving after dark, detaching the Jeep at the dump station, and coming within a millimeter of backing into a tree before a camp host with a flashlight called out and helped him position the rig. He states he was embarrassed, notes he assisted another RV ahead of him with his own lights earlier, and records the takeaway: never enter a campsite at night, and don't assume alignment.

Humbug Mountain has no cell or internet service. He states he had avoided it until he could afford satellite or travel Wi-Fi backup, and now decides to stay one to two more nights, using the absence of connectivity and 16 hours of darkness as conditions for rest. He reports sleeping ten hours and sore core muscles. Plans for the day: supplies for Bailey, laundry, groceries, and a shower in Port Orford.

He addresses recent comments — two he identifies as trolling ("hobo," criticism of Bailey's carrier) and one offering unsolicited generator advice. He then states an explicit interaction protocol: no unrequested advice unless safety-critical, and ask questions instead, because every statement he makes carries layers he hasn't expressed.

Environment

Recorded from inside rswfire's RV at Humbug Mountain State Park on the southern Oregon Coast, near Port Orford, at 6:00 AM in roughly 30-degree temperatures with the window open. The site has no cellular service and no internet — a hard connectivity boundary set by the terrain of Humbug Mountain itself. Bailey the cat is present in the rig.

The transmission is composite: the morning segment is stationary and interior, followed by earlier-captured clips from the previous day — driving footage between Bandon (state park closed for construction), a search that touched Cape Arago and Cape Blanco, the return drive 45 minutes south across a coastal bridge, arrival at the Humbug Mountain dump station in full darkness at 5:30 PM, and a post-grocery-run interior segment. Digital environment includes YouTube-style comment sections accessed intermittently when signal is available, and Google Maps routing.

Substrate

The architecture here is constraint-as-instrument: rswfire reads the loss of internet, sixteen hours of darkness, and a closed campground not as obstruction but as external conditions producing decisions he would not otherwise make — "the outside world's making decisions for me that are helping me make better decisions for myself." Alongside this, he constructs an explicit interaction protocol for his audience, distinguishing unsolicited advice from questions, and states the operating premise that every sentence carries ten unexpressed layers. What is being built is a communication spec; what is being dissolved is the assumption that surface reading of his transmissions is sufficient.

Bandon Beach — Reached by a Google Maps misroute; described as picturesque with rock formations, marked for a return
Cape Arago — Searched as an alternative northern site; no campground found
Cape Blanco — Prior stay referenced in the loop back to the Port Orford area
systems
the Jeep — Towed vehicle detached at the dump station before siting
Google Maps — Routing tool that sent him to a different Bandon beach than intended
Ninja Foodi — Cooking appliance used to make burgers after the grocery run
generator / battery bank — Power infrastructure; the subject of a viewer's unsolicited advice and of his ongoing charge management
satellite / travel internet service — Connectivity backup he previously held and states he currently cannot afford
concepts
Thanksgiving — Upcoming holiday; noted as affecting campground availability and as a day he states he has no one nearby to celebrate with
ten layers — His stated model of his own transmissions — each sentence carrying unexpressed structural depth, grounding the ask-questions protocol

Ontological States

Expressed modes of being or awareness.

sovereign (states he does not derive value externally; assigns the troll's behavior back to the troll as their burden)
constrained by terrain (no cell service, sixteen hours of darkness — conditions imposed by place, adopted as useful)
recalibrating (ten hours of sleep, sore core, deliberate slowdown mid-recording)
protocol-setting (explicitly specifying the terms under which dialogue with him functions)
in motion / rerouted (the prior day's pivot from Bandon south to Humbug Mountain, still resolving into a settled site)

Engaged Subsystems

Architecture engaged in this transmission.

somatic (cold, congestion, sore core muscles, ten hours of sleep, reading his own eyes for recovery)
infrastructural (batteries, generator, dump station, Jeep detachment, satellite and travel internet as absent backups)
navigational (route planning, reservation search, Google Maps misroute, 45-minute reroute south)
relational (comment-field engagement, explicit interaction spec, exchange of light with the host and the RV ahead)
ethical (assigning the troll behavior back to its source rather than absorbing it)
economic (states he cannot currently afford satellite or travel internet)
care (Bailey's supply run; Bailey's presence in the comment critique)
documentary (recording, clip assembly, upload staging during a brief connectivity window)
